Important tips recommended by certified Subaru mechanics that help you care for your car during the winter.
During the winter, vehicles are prone to road salt damage, low tire pressure, frozen fuel lines which can wreak havoc on your vehicle. Be sure to remain regular with your Subaru service and Subaru oil change.
Consider these five car care tips recommended by Subaru specialists Carol Stream to help keep your car running smoothly during the winter and prevent long-term damage:
– Purchase Winter tires. These are recommended for those living in areas where temperatures regularly fall below 45 degrees. Winter tires should be changed for regular ones since they’re designed to give you better traction on turns and stops on cold pavement.
– Weekly tire pressure checks. For every 10-degree drop in temperature your tires lose one pound of pressure and driving on underinflated tires can cause premature deterioration and traction loss on slippery roads.
–Keep your fuel tank at least half full. During the winter it’s always a good idea to plan ahead and keep at least a half tank of fuel in the vehicle for longer road trips or emergencies in which you could face getting stuck in the snow or needing other rescue.
-Add a protective layer of wax. Polymer wax can be coated on as a barrier against road salt, grime, snow, sleet and others. Then, high-pressure car washes can rinse away any buildup that could form on wheels, wheel wells, the underbody and other hard-to-reach areas.
